The act of painting for me is more about creating an object than an image. The three-dimensional structure of the canvas and stretchers, the texture of the gesso and the paint, which can often be quite thick, the scale of the piece, and the battle scars that are the remnants of my struggle to bring the painting to fruition are all important aspects of the work.
